How Should We Think About Software?

Curandi has thought about this a lot because it supports our community's social service organizations and programs.

The value of software is not in the technology; it is the solutions it supports. The work you need to do. What part of that work does technology make easier or better? Typically, we want systems to facilitate core processes, visualize and track key elements of the problem or function, and give us the necessary information to improve.

  • Most technology has a primary focus, and you want that focus to be as close to your needs as possible. Does the focus align with something you need?

  • You also want innovation, which means working from a new perspective, making you more productive. What is that?

  • It would be best to consider how social systems' dynamics favor collaboration. How does technology make that more manageable and more productive?

The social context is fundamental to social and behavioral health because the behavior of the system and the behavior of the individuals within it arises from interactions of human thought, not biology. Transparency, consistent measures, and adaptive collaboration are critical for sustainable outcomes and the reality where technological support is most needed.

What technology can't do is to solve human problems. This is why Curandi is a non-profit membership organization that acts like a utility in the background. It is where we can work together to establish shared data definitions that align with external standards. We create standardized adaptive care coordination processes, making it easier to work together through consistent longitudinal paths to client success. Moreover, we use data together to learn and support each other's progress.

The social health delivery model must come from within social services. After all, social service agencies, programs, and providers are the subject matter experts on the issues they face. But to do more, they need essential social system tools and active infrastructure to respond to their continuously changing circumstances and challenges.

Curandi’s assessment is that ActivateCare provides the core infrastructure and tools to dramatically improve the performance of social services. It contains what we need to productively connect social progress to healthcare, education, housing, and more.

We will only do this if we do it together.
